December 21^st 2011

Venue for Test 2 tonight (December 21^st 2011) is BK02-L-04. Time is 8:30pm-10:30pm. Don't be late.

December 11^th 2011

The 2-hour class on Monday December 12^th 2011 is cancelled. 1 hour of that cancelled class will be replaced on Friday December 16^th 2011 as we will be starting 1 hour earlier, i.e. at 9:00am. The other 1 missing hour will be replaced in another class to be announced.

November 15^th 2011

The venue for the test on Wednesday night is BK02-L-04.

There is something we missed to discuss about the test. Out of 10 questions there will be 3 questions on CO3, i.e. about the web site. Please get yourself prepared to answer questions on the things you did to get the server up and running. This includes what you did to the firewall, user permission, as well as the structure of the folder once IIS is activated.

You can download the slides on MAC Sub-layer for our class, but it is not finalized yet as I still need time to include some new points on new technologies of WiMax and Bluetooth.

Synopsis

This subject covers all layers of OSI Model of data communication system. It explains the basic process of data communication, protocol, interfacing and internetworking between computer networks and switching components in telecommunication system. At the end of the course, the students should be able to understand the system used in representation, distribution, transmission and reception of data. The students are also equipped with basic digital multimedia knowledge. They will be taught about the way multimedia data being send over the network especially over the internet. As a hands-on skill of the application layer of ISO Model, the students are also given some skills on web server administration and web development.

Objective

This subject aims to give students wide breadth and surface depth knowledge of OSI Model of data communication system. The students are also expected to have some beginner’s skills on web server administration and web development.
